175 Golfers Show Up to Support Kids Cancer Foundation

SCHERERVILLE – The 2013 Hackers –N- Halos Golf Outing was a record success! The 5th Annual Outing was held Friday, July 12, 2013, at White Hawk Country Club. With 175 golfers and 200 dinner guests, the Foundation hosted a fun and exciting day of golfing, and an evening filled with introductions to the Foundation, Silent Auction and Guest Speakers from our VIP Halo Families.
“I was surprised and excited by the amount of people at the outing this year who were first time golfers. We have had a consistent group of supporters each year with the outing. It was nice seeing new people we didn’t know and getting to share more about Halo and our mission,” Halo Founder Jared Tomich said.
This year Halo of Hope was honored to have VIP Families in attendance. Parents of former camper Sydnee Owens came from Nebraska to enjoy the day with Halo, speak on behalf of their late daughter’s experiences, and receive the Sydnee Award. This is a new, annual award honors the memory and spirit of Sydnee, and is given to a camper who embodies the fight and giving spirit Sydnee had. She battled cancer, and at the same time, found the drive and passion to raise money for safe drinking water wells in Haiti. Sydnee and her sister started Wells for Haiti, by making and selling friendship bracelets. To this day, Wells for Haiti has raised over $25,000. Halo of Hope was proud to make a $1,000 donation to Sydnee’s mission in her memory.
Additionally, former camper Teresa Mansfield and her mother Leann Mansfield traveled from Wisconsin to attend the outing and speak on the numerous ways Halo of Hope impacted Teresa’s life and continues to be a source of hope in the fight against cancer.
All money from this event, and other Halo events, helps support children with cancer and their families. This can include attending week long life changing camps, helping families run successful fundraisers, providing feel good “Love Bundles” to the children and their families, as well as serving families in need in a number of other WAYS that aid in the emotional and financial support.
